This blog is dedicated to showcasing my best artistic and design efforts that I have accomplished over my high school years. The primary purpose is to show my enthusiasm and my interest in pursing a career in the field of Interior Design and to use for college entrance requirements. I will add more of my work through my senior year and once I am studying in college there will be more to add.

Colors, Colors Everywhere
Since I started my first art classes in middle school, I have had a passion for designing, using color and working with various artistic mediums. I like planning what I am drawing, painting or sculpting and working with color. I like to take pride in my finished work and feel a sense of satisfaction at the accomplishment of any artistic project.
Traveling tothe United Kingdom and enrolling in my classes at Fairfield High School furthered my passion for art. I had not considered that I could incorporate my artistic senses into a career until I took my art classes there. The teachers encouraged creativity and original thought in our projects. They exposed students to the use of textiles and we explored fashion design and other artistic endeavors. Upon my return to Northbridge High School I expressed a desire to continue with my art studies and have tried to take all the courses available that I could fit in a full academic course load. I have been able to further my skills in drawing, sculpting, graphic and 3-D design.
I am not necessarily a fabulous artist but Ihave the mindset of an interior designer. I am constantly rearranging my room to fit the images in my imagination and get the most functional use of myspace. I am looking forward to college and the endless combinations offurniture and various items to create my dorm room. I enjoy combining colors with decorations to fit my preferences, everything has to be perfect but I am not afraid to take arisk with colors, as the first venture in painting my bedroom will attest. It was not exactly a color combination that my mother preferred, but I made it work for my style! (See photo)
As I have discovered in my exploration of the Interior Design industry, “decorating” and“design” are complementary concepts; but yet also different. Creating functional spaces is a challenge; making them look pretty is the added benefit to a well-designed space. I learned in the “mock class” that designing a space for a client involves a great amount of diplomacy, listening skills, and organization, as well as a talent for combining colors and textures. This class confirmed my desire to pursue interior design as a profession.
Mixing and matching colors, furniture and textiles fills my brain with endless possibilities of what I can do in the future to create dream spaces. Ordinary pictures become collages and plain walls become murals. Becoming a member of the Newbury College interior design program would broaden my horizons and help me pursue my dreams and take my career to a professional level.
